On March 23, 2019, Center for the rights of Ethiopian Women (CREW) held its annual conference at the Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington DC under the theme \’\’Empowering Visionary Women\’\’. The Conference, inter alia, discussed what Democracy looks like when women lead and what ripple effects the empowerment of women could have on the overall well-being and development of a country. Prominent women leaders, including Dr.Menna Demessie, Secretary of Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund Advisory Board and Vice President of Policy Analysis and Research at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation presented a paper on the nexus between women empowerment and building a democratic system. The conference was attended by more than 150 participants from across the United States. At the conclusion of the conference, the Dr. Maigenet Shiferraw Foundation presented its annual award to this year scholarship winners.
